    E-prescribing incentives

    Thomas J. Ferkovic
Q: We recently received an incentive check for e-prescribing in our practice. We're concerned this will disqualify us from being able to attest to 90 days of meaningful use and receiving an incentive payment for doing so. Is this the case? Please clarify.

A: Based on the current standards in place, you cannot earn incentives for both the meaningful use Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Program from Medicare and the Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program for the same year. If you are eligible under the Medicaid EHR incentive program, you are still eligible to receive the 1% eRx incentive from Medicare. You are, however, eligible to earn Physician Quality Reporting System money in the same year that you attest and earn money for the EHR Medicare program.
