Front-line physicians respond to AHCA vote

Since approval of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) in the U.S. House of Representatives on May 5, reaction in the healthcare industry has been largely negative.

Physician organizations, such as the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians, have voiced their displeasure with the bill, while the American Hospital Association said it was “deeply disappointed” in the action. Commercial payers, represented by the advocacy group America’s Health Insurance Plans, said the measure “needs important improvements.”

Medical Economics recently asked front-line, practicing physicians for their opinions on the AHCA and its backers’ goal of having it replace the Affordable Care Act. Click next to find out what they had to say.

Scherger, Patel, and Osborne are hopelessly clueless and out of touch with reality. Helmets is a very special kind of stupid. It's scary that these illogical, fact denying clowns are allowed to practice medicine.

Dr. Hamlin: You are entitled to your opinions, of course, but I'd ask that you refrain from name-calling and degrading your peers. This is a professional space for physicians of all segments of the world - with varying opinions - can share their thoughts on the issues facing them and how they practice medicine. I'd ask that in the future you (and all commenters) show respect for those opinions despite your own beliefs. And, naturally, if there is more you would like to say on this issue, or any issue in Medical Economics or on MedicalEconomics.com, you are welcome to write me directly ([email protected]) or submit a "Letter to the Editor" at [email protected] Thank you.
