Best EHR systems of 2014: Physicians rank five key performance areas

Providers rated systems for quality of care, meaningful use, patient portal, technical support and clinical decision support

The performance of an electronic health record (EHR) system can mean the difference between a thriving practice and a struggling one. These systems impact every aspect of medical care, from the care physicians provide to patients to the practice’s ability to get paid for the work it does.

For this exclusive EHR Scorecard, Medical Economics asked thousands of physicians to rate their systems, on a scale of 0 to 10, in the key areas that matter most to them.

I use athenahealth and I find it as good as any, which isn't saying much. I place the blame squarely on both the CPT system and CMS through Meaningful Use for most of the problems and not necessarily the EMR softwares. As for your survey, you report that 82% of your responders have met Mindful Use Phase 2 but athenahealth itself reports 37% have satisfied Phase 2 so I assume there is selection effect. In deciding which ERM to purchase, I would recommend taking any survey with a grain of salt.

Agreed. VA's VistA and it's commercially extended COTS EHR represents the most widely used EHR in the US and globally today -- commercial and public sector. This survey, while interesting, is far from complete.
